Tracking Missing Data

Sometimes you receive important and useful information verbally, in an email or scribbled on a sticky note.  Here are some tips for capturing, organizing and storing that data so it doesn’t become lost or overlooked:

Phone numbers and contact information:

Keep in your electronic or paper address book.  Develop a habit to copy the information to the designated area.  Developing this habit will save you time, having only one place to look for this type of information.

How To’s

You may collect instructions for performing specific tasks or using various pieces of electronic equipment.  You can create a note in Outlook notes, or you can create a separate document for each and keep in one file named electronics.  Your document could include directions, tips and shortcuts.

Ideas

Keep a notebook, or use the Notes feature in Outlook or your PDA, to keep track of your ideas.  Make a habit of capturing your ideas as soon as you think of them.

Tasks

All the details for your daily and long term tasks can be incorporated with your task list.  Use the electronic window for further details if you are using Outlook, or write them in the notes section of your paper planner.
