Close the doors to bedroom, home offices and all
but the guest bathroom.

Use a laundry basket to pick up and store items
in the open rooms. Store the basket in one of the bedrooms until the guests
leave.

Remove any dirty dishes sitting out. If the
dishwasher is full, place them on a cookie sheet and put in the oven, but
don’t forget about them! (Remember this is “emergency” cleaning!

Lightly dust the coffee table and other areas
where guests will sit.

Vacuum high-traffic areas and shake out the front
door rug.

Empty the trash in the guest bath and kitchen.

Light a candle or place a small pan of water with
a spoonful of cinnamon, cloves, allspice or any combination of the three to
make the house smell inviting.

Take a deep breath, relax and enjoy the company!
