Let Me Check My Calendar

We all lead such busy lives.  A good calendar is a must for keeping track of our lives.  Here are some tips about calendars.

Children Calendars.  Get your children in the habit of using a calendar to record their school and personal activities.

Frugal calendar.   Print your own from software such as Outlook, Publishers, Microsoft online templates or many free sites on the web.

Open the mail with the calendar handy.  When you see something in the mail you may want to attend, jot the information on the calendar right then.  Then, insert that postcard or letter in your Action File on the event date.

Hang a family calendar.  Consider a large hanging calendar in the kitchen or laundry room for all family activities.  Each family member can add their schedules and activities in their designated color.

Have one calendar.  Use one calendar for both business and personal use.  Using one calendar eliminates scheduling conflicts or forgetting to note an appointment on both calendars.

Check your planner daily.  Check it once or twice a day.  That is why it is named a daily planner.  Check it the night before to be prepared for the next day.

Choose the right calendar.  If you have less than four appointments in a day, a month-at-a-glance calendar should be sufficient for your needs.  If you have four or more appointments in a day, you may consider using a week-at-a-glance calendar that has a number of slots for appointments.

Fill in recurring appointments.  Chances are, if you have a meeting every single Wednesday, you will probably remember.  But why chance it?  Write down all appointments , both one time and recurring, to keep your mind clear.

Make appointments with yourself.  Set aside time in your day for business reading, making calls, exercising or mental relaxation time.  Keeping an appointment with yourself is as important as all your other appointments.

Overload.  When your calendar is scheduled too tightly, one thing that doesn’t fall right on schedule can throw off your entire day.  A good rule of thumb is to schedule only 70% of the day.
