Double Duty Furniture

If you are short on storage space and need some new furniture, consider some of the following furniture choices that double as storage.

Entryway

  • Consider an entryway bench that has storage in the seat.

  • Instead of an entryway table, look for a dresser or chest that will work in the space.

Kitchen/Dining Room

  • Get a kitchen table that has a wine rack as a base.

  • A dresser or chest would work in the dining room, too.  Use the drawers to organize and store tablecloths, linens, placemats, napkins, candles, candle holders, silverware, serving trays and special serving pieces.

Living Room

  • Purchase coffee tables and end tables with built in storage.

  • Look for storage ottomans – great for extra seating, storing quilts, pillows & throws, games…oh, and for propping up your tired feet.
  • Use an armoire or console for storage as well as a room divider.

  • A low dresser could serve as a behind-the-sofa table.

  • Stacked vintage suitcases or trunks provide storage and decorative appeal.

Bedroom

  • If you have no other place for your computer or a desk for paying bills, an armoire could house your office equipment.  When finished, close the doors and no one but you will know about your office in the bedroom.
  • A trunk or storage bench at the foot of the bed makes both a great storage area and place to sit to tie your shoes.  Or you could store your shoes in it in clear shoe boxes.
