Is Your House Making You Sniffle and Sneeze?
It is allergy season time! Watery eyes, sneezing,
coughing, headaches…these are just some of the symptoms of springtime
allergies. We can’t stop the pollen outside, but below are some tips for
creating the best allergy-free environment indoors:
-
Dust
regularly. Replace dusting cloths often to prevent transferring dust from
one piece of furniture to the next.
-
Stay away
from feather dusters, dust wands and brooms. These tools merely stir up the
dust. Instead, vacuum all surfaces thoroughly, including high ledges,
baseboards, ceiling fans, cold air returns and upholstery.
-
Restrict
your pets to as few rooms as possible, especially your bedrooms during
allergy season. Launder the pets’ bedding often.
-
Clean and
service air conditioning units to remove pollen and other allergens. Change
the unit’s filter.
-
Wash
bedding in hot water to kill dust mites.
-
Encase
pillows in allergy-proof covers to keep dust and dust mites away.
-
Thoroughly clean places where molds flourish, like old flowerpots, shower
curtains and drain pans under your refrigerator.
